White Fences maintains six acres of Vinifera and French-American Hybrid vines planted on well-drained sandy tidewater farmland in the heart of historic Irvington, a short distance from Chesapeake Bay. Blending traditional Bordeaux ideals and modern grape growing techniques, White Fences strives to assemble wines of distinction and elegance.
The first vintage was released in the fall of 2005 at the Irvington Stomp and Chesapeake Fair, an event held annually at White Fences on the first Saturday in September. White Fences currently offers self-guided tours of the vineyard and an invitation to join Friends of the Vineyard, a membership group established for viticulture education, hands-on opportunities to work among the vines, wine-tasting parties and camaraderie. Groundbreaking for the winery and adjoining entertainment facilities is anticipated to begin in the fall of 2005.
